Group 9 Race 1: The Peter Gregg Trophy at Laguna Seca

Friday morning, August 14, we set up along the fence on Laguna Seca's front straight for Group 9 Race 1, the Peter Gregg Trophy. The race carries the name of Peter Gregg, one of the great Porsche drivers of the 1970s, and it was fitting that so much of the field was classic 911s.

From the fence, the field came at us in a long stream past the Montage Health bridge: sports racers out front, then a steady run of 911s in every color the '70s had to offer. A turquoise #4 and the orange #61 911 stood out on the run down the straight.

Then we moved into the infield, where the cars come right past you. That's where the best footage is: the white #68 911 leading the orange #64 and a yellow #77 through the turn, the red #3 open-cockpit sports racer, and a little green #18 Lotus holding its own next to a #91 911.

The full clip is about a minute and a half, with the real track sound left in. Turn it up.
